Membership Benefits

What are the benefits of membership?

The facilities management industry is still little recognised outside of the FM arena. Representation to government, commerce and industry is essential and gives the FMA the opportunity to promote FM as a strategic discipline, and promote its growth.

Each member company has the opportunity to strategically influence the industry, formulating policy and codes of practice, which it would not be able to achieve individually, but is is only possible via membership to the FMA.

Representation is thus a unique feature and benefit of the FMA and we are the only association in FM representing our members and the views of the industry as a whole to the following bodies:

Government:
* HMG Treasury - via the The office of Government Commerce (OGC).
* CBI's Trade Association Council, an elite body in which FMA sits on its council.
* Sector Skills Council - FMA sits on the FM Forum of Asset Skills.
* Business Environment and Regulatory Reform (BERR).
* Energy & Climate Change (DECC)

Industry and Commerce:
Our quarterly survey is instrumental in defining the commercial trendsand issues which act as an industry barometer to assist the CBI in determining how government policy is influencing our market.

Education:
The FMA is concerned with promoting and sustaining the industry. It recognises the demographic trends and the lack of graduates entering the profession. There will not be enough skilled managers in the next decade if we don't act now. We are promoting young managers via our award and FM in general as a sector to enter from higher education and have created a promotional video to entice graduates into the FM industry.

Our Young Managers Forum is directly involved in sending the message to graduates, the potential senior managers for the future.

Media:
The sector represents 7% of GDP and affects not only business but society as a whole with PFI and PPP being instrumental in building and maintaining our schools and hospitals. The FMA is the lead organisation for promoting the trades viewpoint to the general and business media, to explain how the industry is developing and evolving.
Media coverage is essential not just to the trade press but also in forging relationships with the wider business arena. The Industry needs to get over the message that FM companies are skilled in providing a 'ready to work' environment

Other benefits include:
Networking is a key benefit to our members, and we hold regular formal and informal events to ensure knowledge transfer exists within our membership.

We provide access to a raft of other services, including: Access to legal bodies providing free Corporate legal advice, Executive and Recruitment services, seminars and workshops specifically for the FM industry.
