Graduation for Norland’s first apprentice cohort

Norland, one of the UK & Ireland’s fastest-growing facilities, energy and project management companies, announced today that its first cohort of apprentices have qualified as engineers following an intensive, four-year apprentice training scheme. Integral to Norland’s growth plans and overall sustainability approach, Norland now has forty-five apprentices at various stages of qualification and learning.

Developing young engineers is core to Norland’s business and at the heart of its sustainability programme. Terry Foster, Norland’s Head of Training and Development said: “Our annual in-take of apprentice engineers is about nurturing new talent and making a positive impact on the community. It’s also one of the reasons why last year we were the winner of the prestigious CIBSE ‘Training for Building Performance' award." He added: “The ongoing staff development programme we run with the Institute of Leadership and Management means that with Norland it is possible to go from an apprentice to the very top of the business”.

Working in partnership with training providers JTL and BEST, Norland apprentices typically attend an approved college course on day-release. Each trainee is based at a client site where they are mentored by one of the front-line staff and where they gain the required practical experience to support their college learning.   Outward bound expeditions and workshops equip the apprentices with the communication and problem-solving skills they need to help them become future leaders.

Apprentice, Harry Davies said: “It has been an amazing experience for me and I have been able to qualify for NVQs in service and maintenance as well as specialised certificates in HVAC, mobile access towers and powered access equipment”. He added: “The investment that the company has put into training us has been second to none, being able to learn on the job, supported and mentored by people with a lifetime of experience means that it has been enjoyable as well as building the foundations of my career”.
