FMA welcomes growth outlook for the sector

Published: 29th September 2011

The Facilities Management Association (FMA) - http://www.fmassociation.org.uk/ has welcomed the latest statistics for future market growth.  With most sectors within the FM market having experienced positive growth in 2011, the FM market has strengthened, according to the latest report from MTW Research (MTW) - http://www.marketresearchreports.co.uk

MTW forecasts for market growth of 12% by 2015 also represent an industry which is recovering from reduced performance in early 2011. The report concludes that this growth will mainly be attributable to the development in ‘total facilities management’ services, but supported by a growth in the number of single service and niche providers.

Chris Hoar, Chief Executive of the FMA comments:

“This is really encouraging news for our industry. It’s high time that more of our members stepped out of the shadows to publicise the fantastic work that they do across the UK.

We need to let more people know just how important the FM industry is in the running of the country as well as the contribution the FM industry makes to the UK economy. We represent £40bn in turnover and over 500,000 employees; 5% of GDP is a significant amount.”

For those working in sectors within the FM market, the report also makes favourable reading.

Richard Sykes, Managing Director of Carillion Facilities Management - http://www.carillionplc.com/cfm/ - explains:

“There is certainly a buzz around our sector as more and more businesses turn to our skills in reducing costs during these times of austerity. The growth in the report is certainly backed up by the number opportunities that have recently come to the market.”

These sentiments are echoed by Nick Shaw, Divisional Director at VINCI Facilities www.vincifacilities.com:

“Taking a line from the MTW Research executive summary, it is quite true that “…most sectors within the FM market are experiencing positive demand patterns”. I think the strength of the industry has come to the fore in supporting our customers as economic austerity bites hard. This positions us well to manage the future growth that is predicted coming out of 2012. A positive outlook based on listening to customers’ needs.”

Not only does the report highlight improved performance throughout 2011; it also takes an optimistic stance on the state of the industry in 2012. The economic recovery from recession and the demand for outsourcing are both expected to contribute to this improved market position.

This latest report also suggests that factors including public expenditure, climate change and economic growth will be amongst those with the biggest impact on the industry. The 200 page report discusses a plethora of issues which will be of importance to the industry in coming years: http://www.marketresearchreports.co.uk
