FMA Certificate students now eligible for RICS associate grade membership

The Facilities Management Association (FMA) is delighted to announce that the FMA Certificate will now officially be recognised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

This move will present the opportunity for those who have successfully completed the FMA Certificate, to gain direct entry to the RICS Associate grade of membership.

The FMA Certificate, run by the Facilities Society, takes three months to complete and has the aim of providing students with a theoretical understanding of FM and an opportunity to develop an appreciation of the principles and procedures used within the facilities management industry.

Dr Brian Atkin FRICS, Director, The Facilities Society, comments: “The Institution’s decision to recognise the FMA Certificate is an important step forward for the FMA’s member companies and their employees. It provides a golden opportunity for employees to gain a recognised and highly-valued professional qualification with the most respected body in the property, construction and facilities management world. As a Fellow of the Institution, I am especially proud of this development, which sends the very clear message that the Institution is determined to raise the professional standing of facilities management.”

This initiative signifies the FMA’s and RICS’ continued investment in the facilities management sector.

John Anderson, RICS staff member responsible for the FM Professional Group said: “We believe that this is an important milestone in the continuing professionalisation of the FM industry.”

To date, there has been a huge amount of interest in the FMA Certificate with many FMA member companies having already enrolled students including Vinci, Interserve, Compass, Sodexo, Incentive FM, G4S and Servest.

Chris Hoar, Chief Executive of the FMA, comments: “This is an extremely exciting partnership for us and our industry. This opportunity will play a significant role in the continued up-skilling of FM professionals. We have already had a great response from our many FMA members and look forward to seeing the students progress.”

Following the FMA Certificate course, students also have the chance to continue their studies with the FMA MBA. This is a new, unique and exciting opportunity for FMA members to gain a formal MBA qualification. The blended learning nature of the MBA allows students to continue in their current job role, whilst undertaking independent study and only 20 days of tuition in London.
