London, 17th September 2013 – Today, the facilities management (FM) industry will see experienced facilities managers enter the classroom to embark on the MBA in FM for FMA members, a new collaboration between Sheffield Business School at Sheffield Hallam University and the Facilities Management Association (FMA) to deliver Sheffield Business School’s existing MBA in FM specifically for FMA member organisations.
The MBA in FM will see 18 students from a variety of FMA member companies study for the qualification on a blended learning basis; primarily comprised of independent study with 20 days tuition in London over the three-year course period.
The MBA in FM is one of the major recognised benchmark qualifications for senior managers in a wide range of disciplines and those progressing onto this particular MBA course for FMA members will have already completed the FMA Certificate Course. The MBA allows students to continue in their current job role whilst studying, with the aim of contributing to bridging the education gap in the FM sector.
Richard Sykes, FMA Chairman, comments: “It’s excellent that the FMA and Sheffield Business School at Sheffield Hallam are offering such a representative and important qualification for the FM industry, especially given the tough economic climate. Our industry needs to offer both development and education at all levels and this MBA offers opportunities that previously did not exist for FMA members in London. It is another positive step in ensuring we develop our sectors’ future leaders.”
Mel Bull, Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the MBA in Facilities Management, adds: “I am very excited for the first day of the MBA in FM delivered for the FMA members in London. We have a fantastic and very capable group of students enrolled who are all extremely keen to start their studies. This qualification is the first of its kind in the FM industry to be delivered off campus for a corporate partner and I look forward to seeing how the students progress over the coming months.”
Professor Adrian Hopgood, Pro Vice Chancellor of Sheffield Business School at Sheffield Hallam said: “Sheffield Business School is committed to providing courses that deliver not only academic excellence, but also practical and relevant benefits in the workplace. This new partnership to deliver the MBA in FM to FMA members is a prime example of that commitment.”
Professor Isobel Doole, Assistant Dean of Sheffield Business School at Sheffield Hallam added: "This new partnership to deliver the MBA in FM to FMA members reflects our ambition to deliver high quality management education which is totally aligned to the needs of individuals looking to develop themselves to be the leaders and managers in the field of facilities management. The FMA is a very important corporate learning partner and we are proud to be working with such a prestigious organisation in developing this innovative and exciting new programme."
