Nationwide Platforms’ latest generation of access industry apprentices have been honoured with a string of awards at a National Construction College (East) award ceremony.
Trainee engineers Scott Glenn, Sam Wright and Sam Williams all received achievement certificates for having successfully completed the latest stage of their training which comprises classroom and hands-on learning. All three were also nominated in the fiercely contested Plant Mechanics (Access Plant) category, which was made up entirely of the Nationwide Platforms representatives.
24-year-old Scott Glenn picked up the major honour, as well as a further accolade in the Sports and Social Life category in recognition of his involvement in extra-curricular activities during his time at the college.
Having joined the business in 2012 at Nationwide Platforms’ Glasgow depot – the largest powered access depot in Scotland, Scott was quickly recognised by colleagues and teachers alike for his abilities and dedication in the workplace. Earlier in the year he was shortlisted for the Construction News Specialists Awards Apprentice of the Year prize.
Nationwide Platforms has been running its apprenticeship scheme for more than 16 years, providing dozens of opportunities to young people in engineering, many of whom have gone on to secure management positions within the organisation. The business has also introduced other apprentice roles based in training, HR, and finance as a means of providing new opportunities to employees in various departments.
Earlier this year, Nationwide Platforms also established a partnership with the Hire Association of Europe for the development of apprentices in the rental industry. This led to the access leader taking on a number of apprentices in Hire Desk Controller roles for the very first time at its regional Customer Service Centre locations across the country.
Marc Johnson, UK Technical Director, Nationwide Platforms, said: “We take great pride in developing the industry’s next generation of access platform engineers by giving them the skills, knowledge and experience to succeed. What these awards clearly demonstrate is the incredibly high calibre of all of our apprentices. On behalf of the business I’d like to share our congratulations to all three of the lads involved in this ceremony. They’ve all done us incredibly proud.”
