Exova’s fire engineers have backgrounds in diverse areas of fire safety ranging from structural engineering, chemical engineering, system engineering, building control, fire authority enforcement, fire risk assessment to insurance. The multi-disciplinary background of the team allows it to:
Deliver bespoke and innovative fire engineering solutions to complex design problems;
Gain regulatory approval for bespoke fire engineered designs; Deliver bespoke and multi-site programme fire risk assessments with an emphasis on quality, value and proportionate and compliant recommendations.
Fire Risk Assessment
Exova Warringtonfire’s fire risk assessment team is experienced and well respected in the fire risk assessment industry and our opinions are held in high regard by the regulators; the local fire and rescue services charged with enforcing the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. Exova Warringtonfire’s involvement in fire risk assessment encompasses a wide and diverse range of premises; everything ranging from retail sites (supermarkets and shopping centres), to industrial sites (power stations and waste to energy plants) through to hospitals, prisons and airports.
Risk assessments are undertaken either on a one-of bespoke basis or as part of a structured and focused programme for clients with multiple sites. We have a successful track record of delivering risk assessment programmes on schedule, in accordance with client specific requirements, at a competitive price point and in avoiding over specification of corrective requirements which is endemic in the risk assessment industry. We work closely with client representatives in delivering these programmes and client operating models are accommodated in our programme.
Assessments have covered the following key aspects of the occupation of buildings:
-Occupied premises risk assessments; by far the largest portion of our work;
-Construction Phase fire risk assessments to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire safety) Order 2005 and satisfy the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive;
-Preliminary or pre-occupation fire risk assessment based upon a desktop study of plans, systems performance specifications and supporting procedural documents;
-Compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR); and
-Audits of fire safety procedures for the evacuation of persons with a disability to support compliance with both fire safety and disability discrimination legislation.
We are also able to supply bespoke fire risk assessments to address localised fire safety risks and compliance issues. Assessments can be commissioned to include property protection and operational continuity (business interruption) mitigation as required.
Our aim is to bring the highest level of competence to the fire risk assessment process, identify key risks and proportionate remedial actions, and to provide a seamless service to clients.
Certification: The drive for third party certificated products, systems and services is stronger now than it ever has been before, with increased industry support and regulatory recommendation it is becoming a must have when tendering for work.
Testing: From construction to aerospace, rail and marine to defence, when it comes to testing in support of fire safety and security we have extensive experience in assessing the performance of materials and systems to national and international standards. We have extensive testing facilities in the UK and are able to undertake standard tests in accordance with recognised UK, pan European and international standards as well as being able to develop bespoke tests to address and provide acceptable solutions to unique situations.
