About the FMA

FMA Mission Statement

The Facilities Management Association (the FMA) is the UK’s leading representative trade body for employers in the FM sector engaged in delivering non-core services to a broad range of public and private organisations. The FMA's goal is to support member companies in their pursuit of ever increasing standards of service and value on behalf of their clients and to assist them in improving their trading positions through innovation and thought leadership.

FMA Vision

"To provide market leading representation for our members whilst providing them with opportunities to participate, develop and collaborate for the benefit of themselves and the industry."

As a trade association, the FMA’s vision and strategy will always be focused on its members which can be FM providers, managers, suppliers or any organisation in the FM industry including clients.

This vision is supported by the following aims:

•   To build a strong membership base in order to support the needs of the membership and industry at large.

•   To act as a point of consensus opinion on behalf of our members and to express such opinions.

•   To be the guardian of the community of interests which comprises our members.

•   To represent the declared interests of our members.

•   To act as a vehicle for communicating between members and other parties and stakeholders.

•   To be an opinion-setter for facilities management best practice in the UK.

•   To provide members with services which, acting individually, they may not be able access.

•   To foster relationships and, where possible, take an active role with other councils, associations, institutes
     and the media.

•   To provide a young managers recognition programme to encourage university / high school leavers
to pursue a career in facilities management.

Companies join the FMA because they are committed to the industry, want to see it grow and develop, and value a forum that promotes their goals. Our members have a collective annual turnover of more than £40 billion and employ more than 500,000 people across the country.

The original concept for the FMA arose from the industry itself. The professional disciplines of individuals in this sector are represented by a variety of institutions; what was needed was a voice for employers - to represent their interests to other groups, associations and government.

Today, the FMA listens to its members and works with them to promote the industry generally, as well as the companies and individuals within it. We are passionate believers in the FM industry and in the value it delivers to customer organisations across all sectors, public and private.

The FMA is unique.  No other organisation represents the employers with the blend of detailed and strategic industry knowledge that we have – especially at a time of ever increasing demands on business, technology and people. We work with a series of leading organisations in other related sectors and have established a memorandum of understanding with each.

The FMA aims to provide an exemplary service to its members, always conscious that service is the most important word in the facilities management vocabulary. Click here to download our guide to Best Practice.
